I Can Do ALL Things Through Him

Focus

“I will lift up my eyes to the hills-From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.” Psalms 121:1-2

My attention span, at times, can be very short. My mind will wander as someone is speaking. My thoughts will gather and before I know it, I have completely lost focus on what was being said. I cringe to say this happens often as I pray. I start to pray and then my mind begins to wander, sometimes about the things I am praying about and sometimes other things. I do believe God still hears and honors, because He knows my heart. Still, it would be nice to be able to focus, right?

It is in those times, that I realized that I need to totally and completely look to Him. I need to “bring every thought into captivity”. I need to center my thoughts on the goodness of God. I need to focus completely on Him. I know that can be hard sometimes, with all the outside influences and distractions. But look at the times God commanded His children to keep their eyes focused on Him.

Joshua 3:3-4 “..When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, and the priests, the Levites, bearing it, then you shall set out from your place and go after it. Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure. Do not come near it, that you may know the way by which you must go, for you have not passed this way before.

The ark of the covenant was where the Lord’s presence dwelled. The children of Israel were to watch for this and follow it through the crossing of the river Jordan. It would allow them to keep their focus on God while He showed them the way. He can do that for us as well. If we keep our eyes on the Savior, He will show us through paths we have never passed through before. He will guide and lead us.

In Exodus 3, Moses tries to argue with God that he cannot take on the task that God has given to Him to lead the children of Israel out of Eygpt. With every excuse, God provided a solution. This solution was the same for each argument. “I will be with you”, “I will be your mouth”, “I will do this thing through you”. FOCUS on Me and not on yourself. We can do ANYTHING God calls us to do because He will equip us. He will work through us. We just have to keep our focus on Him and not ourselves.

We can learn from Peter in Matthew 14:29-30, that when you take your focus off of God and on the things around you, you will begin to sink.

“So He said “Come”, And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord Save me!”.

Anytime we take our eyes off Jesus, we will sink. No matter what is going on around us, ALWAYS keep your focus on Him.
