I Can Do ALL Things Through Him

Victories or Victory

“But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 15:57

Georgia Bulldogs! Man, those who know me know I LOVE my Dawgs! On January 10th of this year, I sat in my recliner (or more like stood in it) and watched my boys beat Alabama for the National Championship. I was elated. I was on cloud nine. I was so excited that I couldn’t quit smiling and couldn’t go to sleep. It was the best feeling to watch that victory!

But that next day, some of my excitement was deflated by social media posts. (Go figure, huh? lol) Every other post I read made comments about it being our one and only victory in the last 40 years. I called them sore losers, but man did it get under my skin. My Dawgs had fought hard and won the victory, but the other side was trying to devalue that win. They were trying to make that win seem insignificant due to all of the times we had lost.

Sometimes, in life, others can make us feel as if our victories, or one victory, isn’t that big of a deal. Satan can use those times to attack our self-esteem, our confidence in God and what He has done and is able to do for us and in us. That’s when we have to take a step back and realize that God is in each and every victory, big or small. We have to know that someone else’s many victories or accomplishments do not negate the value of our one!

I spoke at a women’s tea not too long ago. It was my first speaking engagement ever. I was nervous, well let’s be honest, I was TERRIFIED! That was NOT in my comfort zone and I was sure I wasn’t gonna make it through it without fainting! πŸ™‚ But I did. God gave me that victory that I prayed so nervously about. It may not have been the best speech ever, but for me, it was a small victory God knew I needed.

I tell you this to tell you that while this public speaking was an accomplishment for me, my preacher may not have given it a second thought. I mean he does it every week, right? My small victory was not insignificant even though someone else may do it all the time. As Christians, we must remember this.

We can’t look to others accomplishments or others victories and compare it to ourselves. We have to remember that while we may have accomplished something that would have been easy for someone else, there are more than likely things we do or have accomplished easily that is a struggle for someone else. God knows what each of us needs and our needs are NOT all the same.

Remember in John 21 when Peter asked Jesus “What about this disciple”? Jesus responded by saying to him in verse 22 “If I will that he remains till I come, what is that to you? You follow me”. We should not worry about what others are doing or saying. Follow Him. Let Him lead you and you will accomplish the victories that are meant for YOU!

This was an awesome post Brandi! It is a reminder that what is for me, is for me. I know at times, I too am guilty of comparing myself to others but have to quickly remind myself that I am only in competition with myself. I have to remind myself of where I was, what I have accomplished thus far to keep from being in despair. I preach to my kids as well that any accomplishments, big or small, deserves to be celebrated.

  2. I enjoyed that Brandi. I was just reading this morning about Deborah when she had her victory after letting God lead her. It lifts me up to know that when something seems impossible that all things are possible with God leading us.
