“Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, ‘See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized?’” Acts 8:36
As I sit here preparing to write, I am listening to the sounds of my husband playing a video game. Yes, I know. We are still that kind of couple lol. That’s just one of the things we like to do. But I digress. Watching him play isn’t the subject of this blog. π
I was going to wait. I needed to be alone and in the quiet. Or so I thought. As I sat here listening to him play and talk to the TV, I was going over in my mind what I wanted to write about. I had an idea but was praying about some clarification on it. All while he was playing. It hit me then. It doesn’t have to be the perfect place or the perfect time or the perfect setting to talk to God or to do what He has called you to do.
Every morning, I get up and fix my coffee and sit in my recliner to talk to Jesus and read His word. Sometimes I’m sitting with my feet up. Other times I’m sitting with my feet curled up in the chair. It’s my “prayer closet” so to speak. I have prayed in this chair, cried in this chair and praised Him and thanked Him in this chair. Not just in the mornings, but any time that I am sitting here and feel the need to speak to Him.
I say all this to tell you that you don’t have to wait until you’re in church at the altar or on your knees in the quiet to pray to our Father. He hears us anywhere and any place and at any time. Showering in the morning and something is weighing on your heart? Pray while washing your hair. Washing dishes and you think of friend in need? Pray while you dry that plate. My favorite? Putting on my makeup and hearing a song or a word that fills my heart with His spirit. Then, why yes, I praise Him and sing to Him as I try my best to put my eyeliner on with the skill that I don’t have lol.
Just like Phillip and the eunuch. He came across the body of water and asked Phillip, “what’s stopping me?”. What’s stopping us from praying or worshipping when the spirit overcomes us? The answer is nothing. Nothing is stopping us from speaking to our heavenly Father when we want to.
He is in the kitchen in the evening as we cook and in the bedroom at 2 am when we can’t sleep. He is in the car with us on the way to work and in the office with us when we are in the middle of our zoom meeting. And He is always with me in my recliner. π
