I Can Do ALL Things Through Him

Prayer Can Be Strange Thing

“Hear my prayer, O Lord…” Psalms 143:1

Now I can already see the looks. But bear with me. I am going somewhere with this one lol.

Again, prayer can be a strange thing sometimes. There are days when I can wake up and talk to God about anything and know exactly what to say. Then there are those other days. The days when I feel like my prayer is all over the place and I wonder if He can even follow the train of thought that is proceeding out of my mouth. Anyone else have those days??? Say you’re with me! Lol

The great thing about those days is that God still knows exactly what we’re saying. He still knows exactly what we need and what our heart is trying to communicate to Him. Man, what an AWESOME God is He!!

I could probably end there. I mean, He is an awesome God that hears our prayers from the inside out. But I want to share with you one of my favorite prayers. It was prayed by David. Sidenote…read Psalms when you have a chance. I LOVE the prayers in there. ANYHOO!

Back to the prayer. 🙂 Psalms 143:8-11

David gives us four examples of things to pray for. Now I’m not saying you should recite a verse word for word. You can paraphrase. 🙂

David asks God to “…cause me to know the way in which I should walk” (v8), to “teach me to do Your will” (v10), to “lead me” (v10) and to “revive me” (v11). I won’t type up the whole verse with the hopes that you will open up His word and read this awesome chapter.

He asked God to basically show him the way in which he should walk. Our Christian walk is so vital and important. Especially since, sometimes, we may be the only bible others read. He then asked God to teach him to do God’s will. After that he asked God to lead him. Those three points in themselves will have us on the right track. If we truly pray this with our whole hearts, we will be walking in God’s will and letting Him lead us.

The last one is my favorite though. Revive me! How many times when we pray do we ask God to revive us? How many times have we asked Him to awaken in us a passion to walk in His will and to let Him lead us? I have to say, before I really studied this verse, it wasn’t a big prayer finisher for me. But man, imagine the spirit that would fall upon His children if they earnestly prayed as David did for God to revive us!

As I said before, you don’t have to recite a verse word for word. But when you’re struggling and just aren’t sure what to say, God’s word is ALWAYS there. And if you’re like me, sometimes my loss for words leads me to opening up His word and opening up my ears to listen to what He has to say instead. 🙂

“Happy is the people whose God is the Lord!” Psalms 144:15
