This is the first year in a long time that I have put up a full size tree and my little village. I kept my little table tree with excuses of not enough room. But truth be told I didn’t care to put one up. Christmas just didn’t feel like Christmas anymore. The magic wasn’t there. My kids live in another town and nothing was quite the same.
The Faith Hill song “Where are you Christmas?”, I felt deep down in my soul.
Then this year, Dr. David Jeremiah started a series December 1st that described in detail each part played in the Christmas Story. I learned a little more about Mary, about Joseph, about the shepherds and the wise men that came to worship Jesus. Isn’t it funny that after 45 years of listening to the Christmas story, it takes on a whole new meaning for me this year.
I excitingly picked out a new six and a half foot tree. I lovingly got out my village I haven’t seen in 6 years. I put out each piece remembering how my daughter and I picked a new one out every year. And each day I have plugged it in and just enjoyed the smile and joy it gave me to see it all lit up. It’s not extravagant or fancy. But it’s beautiful to me.
In the corner of the village, with no lights or little people statues around it, is my manager piece.

It reminds me everyday of why I celebrate Christmas. It reminds me why the light and presents aren’t important. It reminds me what IS important. The birth of my Savior. The birth of the one who came so that I could have joy and peace.
So when I start getting down as I tend to do at this time of year, I just sit and look and smile.
Because no matter your situation, whether you’re surrounded by family and friends or alone, whether you have 1 present or 20 under the tree, the reason for our Christmas is unchanging.
So in the next few days as you do whatever it is you plan to do, remember that Jesus is the Reason we celebrate this day.
Thank you to ALL who have read and supported this endeavor I began earlier this year. It is a joy to write and share with each of you!
Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!!
