We’ve all heard the saying “someone always has it worse than you” haven’t we? I know have I said it to myself several times over my lifetime.
Bad things happen. They always will. Why? Because we live in a fallen world. We live in a sinful world where the devil roams around seeking who he can destroy!
Sometimes we can be so focused on the bad that is happening around us or to us, that we forget the good things still happening.
Have you ever read the story of Ruth? If not you really should. It’s a beautiful story of unconditional love, commitment and redemption. It’s a story of God’s blessings. It makes the heart happy.
But it didn’t start out that way.
In the first chapter, Naomi, Ruth’s mother in law, leaves her home to travel to a foreign land. She leaves full, with her husband and two sons. But while in the foreign land, tragedy strikes. She loses her husband. Her sons marry women of that nation, and then, in another turn of heartache for Naomi, she loses both her sons.
Heartbroken and bitter, Naomi returns to her homeland.
But she does not return alone. Ruth, her daughter in law, vows to go with her. She vows to stay with her no matter what, until death parts them.
Upon returning, Naomi tells the women of her homeland that she left full but has returned empty. But that’s not entirely true.
She returned with Ruth. She returned with a loyal, faithful and loving daughter. At the time, she was failing to see the full she still had.
I can’t fault her. I have also been so heartbroken that I have failed to see the good God is still working in my life. Perhaps we all have been guilty of this at some time during our lives.
But friend, he is always working good in our lives. Even when we don’t see it, even when it doesn’t feel like it, He is.
So when things go wrong or bad things happen, try to remember to not be so focused on the empty that we overlook the full. ❤️
