In early 2020, as COVID begin to run through our area, our nursing home made the decision to shut our doors to outside visitors, family members or anyone that wasn’t dire to our operations. We did it to keep our family of residents safe and we had no idea the impact it would have and the changes it would make in our own lives.
I was a front office staff member. New at that. In the next year and a half, I would learn the joy of taking care of those you had come to love in midst of an uncontrollable situation.
With that being said, it was EXHAUSTING. We were all pitching in where we were short handed due to sickness. We were facing illness and death in our personal lives as well as watching some of our residents face this as well. We watched our people MISS their families and their families MISS them.
There were days when I would sit in my office and cry and wonder how in the world others did this. I know I wasn’t the only one.
One morning, during a particularly hard week, my devotional verse was this….
Galatians 6:9 “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart”
You have NO idea how much I needed that….but God did.
I sent that verse to my boss, my coworkers and anyone I knew going through these hard times.
It kept me strong and kept me working to help where we were needed. Until the day came when it seemed things might get back to normal. If there is such a thing as “normal”.
My friends, that verse still stands true this morning as I write this.
I look around the world at the things going on and I wonder if we are making any difference. BUT WE ARE. It may not seem like it. BUT WE ARE. Don’t lose heart. One day we WILL see the results of our efforts.
It’s a promise my friends. Right there in His word. Don’t grow weary….for we SHALL, not might, but SHALL reap if we do not lose heart.
Until next time….
