I Can Do ALL Things Through Him

Trick Question…

Joe and Tonya married 10 years ago.

Joe works in his shop til late at night, comes in and fixes himself a sandwich. He heads to his living room to watch his favorite shows.

Tonya comes home from work, washes a load of her clothes and makes herself some frozen pizza rolls for supper. She then heads to her living room with her favorite book and reads until bedtime.

They both retire to their own rooms for the night without interacting or ever speaking to each other. No, they aren’t mad, that’s their lives and has been since they married. Crazy, huh?

Jim and Lisa married 10 years ago as well.

Lisa comes home from work and begins dinner. Jim gets home a few minutes later. They sit down at the table and talk about their day as they eat. Later, they sit on the couch laughing at their favorite shows and talking about their plans together for the upcoming weekend. Afterwards, they retire to their room for the night.

Sounds a lot better, right??

So now for the trick question…

James 2:14 “What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him?”

Hmmmm….

Let me go back to our couples in the story…

Are Joe and Tonya married? Yes. Even though they have nothing to do with each other, they are technically, still married.

Jim and Lisa are married as well, however, it is evident by their actions.

So it is with our faith. We can believe in Jesus, we can accept Him into our hearts as our personal savior and live with Him eternally in Heaven without ever “doing” anything.

But it won’t be much of a “marriage”, will it?

On the other hand, look at Jim and Lisa. Their marriage is evident in their love and their actions.

Works CANNOT save us. But if we have Him in our hearts and love Him, we will WANT to work for Him. We will WANT to love others as He loved them. We will WANT to spend time with fellow Christians. Our faith will be evident by our works.

My friends, in all this, what I’m trying to say is…be like Jim and Lisa. 😁

Until next time…

James 2:26 “For as the body without the spirit is dead,so faith without works is dead also.”
