Have you ever encountered a detour? You’re on your way with a destination in mind and then you come upon a road block, a sign telling you to take this turn to go around the complications up ahead.
It can be a pain, I know.
You get irritable, impatient and ready to get to where you’re going.
Sometimes, it’s like that with God. Sometimes, He throws up a detour sign and sends us on a different road.
You get irritable, impatient and ready to get to where you’re going.
Right?
The thing is…God knows what He’s doing. We may not. But He does.
Just like the children of Israel, coming out of Egypt. They could have went straight through to the promised land by way of the Philistines’ land. Instead, God threw up that detour sign. He sent them by the way of the wilderness.
Why? Because He knew the children of Israel were not ready, not prepared for the battle they may encounter with the Philistines and run back to Egypt.
Exodus 13:17-18 “The it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God did not lead them by the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near, for God said, ‘Lest when they see war and return to Egypt.’ So God led the people around by the way of the wilderness of the Red Sea…”
God knew they weren’t ready.
My friends, when it seems like it’s taking forever to get to where you think you should be in this life, take a moment to talk to God. Take a moment to reflect on where you are. It could be that detour is protecting you from a battle you’re not prepared for quite yet. It could be that God is protecting you from something as He was protecting the Israelites from the Philistines.
God always has a plan.
Sometimes that plan is for us to take the long way around.
Until next time…
