“not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching” Hebrews 10:25
I have never been the outgoing, talkative, never meet a stranger kind of person. I leave that to the hubby. As a matter of fact, in a large crowd, I tend to shrink behind him, trying my best to hide. But….
The Word tells us “not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together“. So…go to church? Check! Sing in the choir? Check! Shake hands, give hugs and wish them a good week and see ya next Sunday? Check! I have got this down to a T right?? Right! But wait…….what about the rest of the verse?
The Word continues on to tell us “but exhorting one another, and SO MUCH MORE as you see the Day approaching.” I am not an English major by no means, so I had to look up the definition of exhort. If the Word is telling us to do this, well then I want to know what it means. I found “strongly encourage (my favorite), nudge, press on”. Then there was “to give strong advice, to warn”. Hmm….wasn’t sure where God was going with this…until I finished the rest of the verse. “…And so much more as you see the Day approaching.”
We are not only to assemble together, but we are also to strongly encourage one another, give our brothers and sisters in Christ a nudge of encouragement when needed. And yes, help to “warn” them of the approaching return of Jesus. You may be thinking “huh”? I know I probably would. Why would Christians need to know this? They should already know…..and we do. But we can’t grow complacent or comfortable in this knowledge. Let’s jump back a verse.
Hebrews 10:24 “And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works”
We must continually encourage and remind each other that Jesus is coming back soon. We must continue to “stir each other up”. We cannot just “warm the pew” every Sunday. We must work together to accomplish what God has called us to do. We must continue to reach out to a lost world with an urgency that we have not had before….much more so as we see the Day coming!
(~Side note….this is not the blog I wrote in my head when I started tonight. I had it all spoken out in my head the direction I was going with this. But God spoke louder~)
